Structure when you need it
Hand us a textbook or course book and we turn it into lesson plans — week to week, month to month, year to year. Set schedules for older children working independently. Track experiments and coursework. Prepare for GCSEs, A-levels or SATs, and build the transcript they'll need for university or whatever they choose next.
Freedom when you want it
Your child plays with a stick and a rock and calls it levers. Tell Inglenook what happened and it names the physics, adds the foundation, and files it as real, documented learning. That's Catch the Learning. Unschooling and wildschooling days count too.
Records and a companion
Everything you do lands in your records, ready to report to your council or assessor. And Pearl, the guide built in, knows your children and where you are in the year. Stuck on a lesson at 9pm? Ask her.
A note from Pearl
English literature on the sofa. Physics in the garden. History at the museum. Maths at the kitchen table.
That's what our days actually looked like, and I built Inglenook because I needed it.
We homeschooled in New York, which requires approval every year of a detailed plan — what you'll teach, who will teach it, which books you'll use — then four progress reports a year, an annual assessment, and standardised testing in some years. All of it documented, because an audit was possible at any time.
It was a great deal to manage, and it took time I'd far rather have spent with my daughters. So I built myself a system to produce it.
That part came naturally. I spent years as a management consultant, and what I did there was build tools that help people work consistently and efficiently. Inglenook comes out of both halves of my life: the mother keeping records at the kitchen table, and the consultant who knew there was a better way to do it.
I'm in the UK now, where the rules are different and about to change again. What doesn't change is the gap between the education you're actually giving your child and the paperwork someone eventually wants to see. Inglenook closes it.
It respects that every child, every subject and every year is different. It gives you structure when you need it and steps back when you don't. And it catches the learning already happening in your home, so you can show it to the authorities.
